What Words Are

I heard this a long time from a friend.

Expanded the first sentence.

Words are just words when the person who said them didn't mean them.

They don't hold water,

They don't hold anything,

and they never will.

People will say so many things,

Make so many promises to you,

And never mean them,

Never keep them.

Never say anything you don't mean,

Especially not to a girl.

Never make a promise to anyone,

And break it.

Especially not to a girl.

Because her heart will break.

Because she was waiting with baited breath for you to keep that promise.

Because she hoped so much that you would keep that promise.

Because a promise to her is a test of how much you love her.

A fulfilled promise, is a measure of how important she is to you.

A broken promise, shows how much you fail at loving her.

Or maybe not at all.

Your excuses,

Your so-called reasons,

Were they really so important,

So much more important than your girl?

If they were, then she really isn't all that important.

Never make a promise that you can't fulfill.

You'll save the heartache.

If you wanted her to trust you,

You shouldn't have promised.

Keep this in mind.

Before you lose your hold on her.

And she leaves with someone who deserves her.

But if she's not important, you wouldn't care,

Would you?
